Simple Rice Cooker Recipes

Plenty of high quality consumer electronics in the Philippines are staple household appliances like rice cookers. Like in other Asian countries, rice is a must in every meal here in the Philippines. This is why having a standard, quality rice cooker is necessary in every household. However, did you know that you can use this appliance to cook foods aside from rice? It’s true! You can cook a whole meal using just its two basic settings: cook and keep warm. Here are a few simple recipes that you can do with just a rice cooker at home:

Breakfast Eggs

Eggs are very easy to cook and making breakfast eggs using your rice cooker is very simple. You can boil eggs using the cook setting of your appliance or create scrambled eggs directly on the rice cooker pot. You can even have frittatas for breakfast using this simple device! To create this egg-based Italian dish, all you have to do is prepare some vegetables, milk, and – of course – eggs. Simply cook your vegetables first before scrambling the eggs with milk. Afterwards, put them in the pot together with your pre-cooked veggies. To ensure that the eggs won’t burn, set the cooker to warm. Wait for 5 – 7 minutes before serving the meal to your loved ones.

Steamed Meats and Vegetables

The flavors from the steaming food will also enhance the taste of the rice. Simply place the steamer with your choice of vegetables inside the appliance as the rice slowly cooks. Check your veggies or meat every few minutes to ensure that they are properly cooked. You can also use your rice cooker to prepare a one-pot meal in 15 minutes. All you have to do is steam a whole fish on top while boiling vegetables like bok choi, cauliflower, carrots, and beans in two cups of water below.


Stewed Veggies and Soups

Stewing veggies in a rice cooker is pretty simple. To do this, prepare some vegetables and place them in the rice cooker pot. Afterwards, add your choice of flavoring like cumin and tinned tomatoes with about a cup and a half of water. Then, set the rice cooker to cook for about 15 minutes and you have yourself a great vegetable stew. On the other hand, if you want to make soup, just add about a cup of water more, and you’re good to go. Remember to add some salt and pepper to improve your meal’s flavor.

Slow Cook Meat

The rice cooker has a standard setting of ‘cook’ and ‘keep warm’. If you want to slowly cook meat using this appliance, just place all of your ingredients in the rice cooker pot and put the device in ‘cook’ setting until it switches to ‘keep warm’. Allow the meat to cook in the ‘keep warm’ setting for about 40 minutes to one hour. However, do not forget to check every 15 minutes to see if your meat has reached the right tenderness. Simple, easy, and no fuss at all!
